Art Spotlight: NREP Holiday Art

DecorativeStudents at NREP captured the magic of the season as they were guided to explore the fundamentals of visual art to enhance their illustration skills. Kyra Saling, art teacher at NREP, motivated her young artists to be creative in their discovery of using oil pastel crayons to make colorful reindeer, and a mixed medium of construction paper, painted paper, and oil pastels to create a folk art Santa Claus. Students also explored similar techniques to create a menorah and Kwanzaa candelabra.

Although the holiday project was originally designed to teach middle school students how to work with different mediums to create masterpieces, the high school students were so impressed that they asked to join in on the holiday fun, giving them an opportunity to express their own styles, as well. These lessons not only created a fun way to capture the magic of the holiday season, but also provided a stress-free approach to immerse students in building self-confidence and expanding creative experiences.

Undoubtedly, color brightens the world —looking at this colorful holiday artwork is sure to brighten our world. We hope you had a wonderful holiday!
